Other TV Viewing Choices?

Anyone know of any alternatives to Dish Network out here? We're shopping around.

You get one other choice: Direct TV, and I am NOT especially impressed with them. What's the problem with DishNet?

Nothing dramatic, just a lot of small things we'd change if there was a better alternative. It seems archaic to have to buy a big block of channels, just to get TV at all; I'm betting that some smart company will start offering a more fexible selection at some point. Also, this summer we've had a big leap in error messages over a broad spectrum of channels. The problem isn't new; they've told us that trees leafing out will cause interference, as well as lightening storms. But it's been much more frequent than usual this year. Finally, their help desk is iffy - not much worse than other help desks, but not noticably better either. We did see Direct TV in the yellow pages; funny thing is that the local rep for them is the same as for Dish Network. Makes me wonder if there is any real difference between the two.

Seems to me that most of your problems might not be with DishNet, per se, but with the location (and alignment) of your dish? I've had DishNet for years now, and have never had a problem.

I do admit their help desk can be a little unhelpful, but I think that is true across the entire spectrum recently...

However, would you like DirectTV more? I guess you'll never know if you don't try!

The problem with the location/alignment theory is that those have both remained unchanged, but the error messages have skyrocketed. I must admit I'm also getting a bit fed up with companies that sell you their product (and even install it) and then tell you that you may have trouble using it effectively in that location. Years ago, I signed up with an ISP that shall remain nameless, began having problems, went to them for help and was told that their system doesn't work well with Mac's. (Yes, they had known I had a Mac when the sold me the service; there were differnt installation CD's for each system). When I asked why they had taken my money for a system they couldn't support, I got the phone equivalent of a blank stare. All that is just to say: if your product won't work in certain circumstances, don't sell it to customers in those circumstances. Or, improve your product so it works for a broader group of potential customers. Better marketing and better customer service. I'll check Direct TV, to see if it looks better.

E-mail me sometime- let me know what error messages you're getting. I should be able to help...
